Archaeology

One of our core strengths is the provision of professional archaeological services. Input varies from pre to post-planning stages for small, medium and large scale projects. Services include:

 

  • Site assessment: Walkover surveys, desktop research and reporting for planning related conditions or further information requirements (Archaeological Impact Assessments, Visual Impact Assessments and sub-contracted geophysical surveys).  

  • Testing: Targeted on-site licensed evaluation to determine the presence or otherwise of archaeological remains. This typically involves mechanically excavating test trenches within the development site.

  • Monitoring: On-site archaeological watching brief during topsoil removal, site clearance or utility works to investigate if archaeological remains are present.

  • Excavation: Full licensed excavation of known or newly discovered archaeological remains including post-excavation assessment and reporting.

  • Marine: Riverine and coastal impact assessment including licensed foreshore and metal detection surveys and sub-contracted diving services.

  • Consultancy: Archaeological advice with pragmatic solutions for small, medium and large-scale developments. We undertake a project management role including provision of tender specifications and supervising archaeological contractual issues on behalf of the Client. We also have extensive experience with liaising with local and national statutory bodies on behalf of our clients.

Tourism & Amenity

We provide expert consultancy services to a wide range of Clients with heritage tourism and amenity related needs on a national, regional and local basis. In addition, the company has a track-record in providing policy assessment and advice for clients including State bodies and agencies (e.g. NRA; DoEHLG; Heritage Council; Fáilte Ireland) and local authorities.

 

Outputs include:

  • Feasibility Studies

  • Tourism Impact Assessment

  • Scoping and development of Heritage Trails (walking, cycling, driving, marine)

  • Review of tourism and amenity policy for Development Plans

Built Heritage & Conservation

Expertise in Urban and Building Conservation has manifested itself within the company via a range of completed projects on behalf of private developers, State bodies, Local Authorities and Community Groups. Services include:

  • Architectural Heritage Impact Assessments

  • Conservation Plans for sites such as country houses and estates as well as small-scale footprints such as medieval churches & graveyards

  • Conservation Method Statements

  • Feasibility Studies

  • Heritage Regeneration Strategies

  • Planning Studies of Historic Towns and Village Design Statements

  • Urban conservation plans including assessment of industrial built heritage and architectural conservation area (ACA) appraisal

     

Cultural Heritage Assessment
(EIS & SEA)

We are involved at all stages of cultural heritage assessment for numerous forms of development including private, residential, commercial, industrial, urban, rural and infra-structural projects throughout Ireland (both within the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Our services include:
